It’s frustrating when popular therapists or doctors promote anxiety relief techniques that don’t work. Many of them are simply old and outdated panic attack tips or band aids. If you get the feeling that a panic attack or intensely stressful situation, tell the attack that it has 20 seconds and only 20 seconds to begin the full panic attack.
After 20 seconds expires the attack can no longer continue to make endless threats. So whatever experiences or sensations you encounter regardless the situation or intensity it has only this small window to manifest itself and then the window is shut.
Giving this anxiety or panic attack a set of boundaries or parameters to work within enables you to turn this whole thing into a little game of sorts whereby you call the attacks ‘bluff’ if you will. You’re asking it to show itself front and center for what it really is.
Time and again natural cures for anxiety like this work because they enable you to stay in control of any situation or feeling so it doesn’t take control of you.
It’s good to count slowly. Take your time and focus on the count especially as you near the last few seconds: “FIVE, FOUR,….THREE,…TWO AND ONE HALF,……TWO………TWO AND THREE QUARTERS, etc. Count down all the way to where you finally and abruptly give it a “TIMES UP, THE END!”
The key is giving the anxiety full opportunity within this window to do its dastardly thing and as you count you will gain a tremendous sense of confidence.
